Drake, known for his many rap beefs, is now facing an unexpected rival: the weather.
On July 16, 2024, Drake posted a concerning video to his Instagram, revealing that his opulent Toronto mansion was flooded due to a massive storm hitting Canada.
In the Instagram story, Drake filmed himself walking through the flooded halls of his enormous home. Several inches of water covered the floors, and a staff member was seen struggling to keep the doors closed against the deluge.
The overlay text humorously read, "This better be Espresso Martini," despite the murky water.
The storm, described by The Weather Network as bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and large hail, wreaked havoc across eastern Canada and parts of the U.S., including Toronto.
Environment Canada reported nearly 100mm (4 inches) of rain, breaking the city's daily record set in 1941.
This deluge left over 167,000 customers without power and stranded drivers on major highways like the Don Valley Parkway and Ontario Highway 410.
The record rainfall from three consecutive storms caused severe flooding throughout Toronto. Images and videos showed cars nearly submerged and water cascading down staircases at Union Station.
Toronto Hydro reported significant power outages, while Billy Bishop Airport experienced numerous flight delays and cancellations.
Toronto's mayor, Olivia Chow, addressed the flooding, noting the city's efforts in clean-up and future flood prevention.
The city has faced severe storms before, such as the costly July storm in 2013 that left 300,000 people without power and stranded 1,000 train passengers. Chow emphasized the city's ongoing investments to mitigate similar future incidents.
