Country singer Ingrid Andress has issued a heartfelt apology following a widely criticized performance of the U.S. national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby.
The four-time Grammy nominee admitted she was drunk during the performance and announced she will be entering a treatment facility.
On Monday night, Andress delivered an a cappella rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Her performance quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons, with many viewers expressing their disapproval.
Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr posted on X,
"I'm so sorry, I'm sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I've ever heard in my whole life."
In response to the backlash, Andress took to Instagram to address the situation, writing,
"I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition."
The MLB has not commented on the incident, and a representative for Andress stated there will be no further comments at this time.
Chris Wright, the executive editor of Saturday Down South, commented,
"I enjoy Ingrid Andress' music and have seen her in concert. After listening to that National Anthem, I have a newfound respect for her producers and sound crew. Wow."
Andress, 32, started her career as a Nashville songwriter, creating hits for various artists, including Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX. She signed with Warner Music Nashville and Atlantic Records, releasing her debut album Lady Like in 2020.
Her breakthrough single "More Hearts Than Mine" reached No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2021, she released "Wishful Drinking," a collaboration with Sam Hunt, which also spent 20 weeks on the chart.
Following the incident, Andress has canceled her upcoming shows in Nashville and Denver. Her official website now only lists two festival dates: Aug. 3 at Minneapolis' Basilica Block Party and Oct. 4 at Inlet Lodge in Ocean City, Maryland, for the Country Calling festival.
A representative confirmed that venues are in touch with ticket buyers regarding refunds.
