In a surprising twist, 21-year-old pop star JoJo Siwa celebrated on TikTok for having the most disliked music video of the year, surpassing top artists like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande.
In a TikTok video posted on Thursday, Siwa, dressed in her signature vibrant attire complete with a bedazzled construction vest, shared the statistics with her fans.
According to Siwa's data, verified by an online dislike tracker, Ariana Grande's Billboard Hot 100 hit "Yes, And?" received 290,000 thumbs-downs.
Katy Perry's "Woman's World" came in second with 330,000 dislikes, which has since risen to 550,318.
Taylor Swift's "Fortnight," which topped the Hot 100 in May, garnered 350,000 dislikes.
However, JoJo Siwa's single "Karma" took the top spot with an astonishing 3.1 million dislikes, a record-breaking number for this year.
"Your No. 1 first place overall goes to...," Siwa announced with exaggerated excitement. "'Karma,' JoJo Siwa, with an astonishing, record-breaking 3.1 million dislikes!"
Siwa embraced the unexpected victory, adding,
"I am the only person that can say I beat Taylor Swift on a list of something. I'll take it." She captioned her TikTok clip with enthusiasm, "WHAT A DAY TO CELEBRATE. KARMA BROKE A RECORD. 900% MORE THAN 2ND PLACE. A WIN IS A WIN."
This unconventional celebration comes a few months after Siwa released her polarizing single "Karma," which has since been the subject of countless memes and even a Saturday Night Live sketch.
The track is part of her new EP, Guilty Pleasure, which was released on July 12.
In an interview with TMZ in April, Siwa explained her artistic vision, saying,
''I think I just want to make it more clear that gay pop is a genre. I am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be a piece of making it bigger than it already is. I want to bring more attention to it.''
