Hip Hop is in mourning as it has been reported that DJ Polo, DJ and one-half of the legendary 80s duo Kool G Rap & DJ Polo, passed away early Saturday morning (July 27).
The cause of death remains unknown, but the impact of his legacy is felt across the community.
Hip-Hop legends such as Eric B, DJ Chuck Chillout, and others paid tribute to the late DJ on social media.
''My brother DJ POLO we had some great times you will never be forgotten GODS speed,'' alongside a heartfelt post of Polo.
His tribute received comments from notable figures like E-40, DJ Green Lantern, DJ Scratch, DITC's Buckwild, and DJ Spinderella.
DJ Chuck Chillout's post was acknowledged by comedian Bill Bellamy, the legendary music video platform Video Music Box, and Maestro Fresh Wes.
Polo, born Thomas Pough, began his historic career with Kool G Rap in 1986. The duo was part of Marley Mal's legendary posse, The Juice Crew.
Their debut album, Road To The Riches, released in 1989 on Cold Chillin' Records, is credited by many as pioneering the mafioso style later adopted by numerous rappers.
After releasing a legendary catalog that includes 1990's Wanted: Dead or Alive and 1996's Rated XXX, Kool G Rap and DJ Polo split in 1993.
Polo released his solo album, Polo's Playhouse, in 1998. Eminem gave a shoutout to Kool G Rap and DJ Polo in his 2020 album, Music To Be Murdered By, on the track ''Yah Yah.''
Polo is survived by his two children. As of now, Kool G Rap hasn't responded to Polo's passing.
