Britney Spears threatens legal action against Halsey over music video

Britney Spears has publicly threatened legal action against Halsey following the release of Halsey's new song and music video, "Lucky."

Halsey's music video channels her inner Britney, sampling the pop star's 2000s hit "Lucky" and drawing inspiration from the iconic "Toxic" music video with a nearly-naked, sparkly sheer bodysuit.

However, Britney was not impressed and made her feelings known in a statement on X.

''For obvious reasons, I'm very upset about the Halsey video,'' Britney began. I feel harassed, violated, and bullied. I didn't know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all.''

The singer continued,

''I have my own health problems, which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it back up to show I CARE.'' Britney concluded her post with a stern warning,

I'm speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and downright [sic] cruel.''

The US Sun has reached out to Halsey's representatives for comment.

However, just minutes after posting her scathing message, Britney reversed her stance with another post, stating,

''Fake news !!! That was not me on my phone !!! I love Halsey and that's why I deleted it!!!''

The music video for Halsey's single "Lucky" portrays the relationship between pop stars and their fans. It follows a teenage girl, who idolizes Halsey and appears to be modeled after Britney, as she adopts Halsey's style and makeup while dealing with the gossip surrounding the star.

The video juxtaposes the glamour of music videos and red carpets against the singer's real-life struggles with loneliness, broken relationships, and illness.

Halsey's video aims to show that the life of a pop star, no matter how "lucky" it may seem, comes with its own challenges and may not be so different from that of its fans.
