The Game has revealed plans to release ''The Documentary 3'' on the 20th anniversary of his iconic debut album, ''The Documentary''.
The Compton rapper, who has teased retirement multiple times, confirmed the news on the Tacos & Shawarma podcast, stating:
''I'm definitely gonna start the new album and I ain't told anybody that. But yeah, The Documentary 3, I'm gonna go in hard and I'ma drop it the same day that the other one dropped. I'm up for the challenge. It's gonna be tough.''
''The Documentary'' was The Game's major label debut, released on January 18, 2005, under Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and 50 Cent's G-Unit Records.
Despite his well-documented fallout with Dre and 50, The Game has expressed gratitude for their contributions to the project. He commemorated the album's anniversary last year, writing on Instagram:
''18 years ago today. A hip hop classic was born. All I wanted to do was tell my story & make sure my son would never live the life I did. @snoopdogg passed me the torch, @bustarhymes kept me focused @drdre laid the foundation & @50cent helped put the puzzle together.''
He also credited photographer Jonathan Mannion for capturing the essence of Compton and his life, stating:
''I took @jonathanmannion to the depths of Compton, California & showed him the heart of what I survived. He captured the essence of my city, my hood & brought to the world my vision. Always remember, it is no longer a dream once it becomes reality.''
''The Documentary 2'', released in October 2015, featured a star-studded lineup including Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Diddy, Q-Tip, Future, and Ab-Soul.
A second disc, ''The Documentary 2.5'', followed with additional appearances from Nas, Lil Wayne, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Busta Rhymes, Anderson .Paak, Scarface, DJ Quik, E-40, and more.
The Game has been in the news recently for his feud with former collaborator Rick Ross, sparked by Ross's attacks on Drake.
Despite these controversies, fans are eagerly anticipating ''The Documentary 3'', set to drop on January 18, 2025, as The Game prepares to revisit his roots and deliver another powerful project.
