Big Sean has appeared to take shots at Kanye West in a new freestyle for On the Radar Radio, rapping over Aaliyah's classic hit "If Your Girl Only Knew."
The Detroit rapper opened his freestyle by seemingly referencing Kanye's harsh comments about him on a 2021 episode of Drink Champs, where Kanye said signing Sean to G.O.O.D. Music was the "worst" thing he ever did.
Big Sean started his freestyle with a pointed line:
"I had to switch the home team 'cause they committed treason."
This appears to reference his departure from Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music label. He continued with,
"N***** looking for engagement like they got their knee bent / I got better things to do than to find someone to beef with."
This could be interpreted as a response to Kanye's past comments and an indication that Sean has moved on.
Sean didn't stop there. He later rapped:
"Man, this industry is terrible, I can't even vouch / I've seen grown men get matching tattoos for the clout."
This is a more direct jab at Kanye, who got matching tattoos with Lil Uzi Vert and Steve Lacy in 2022. The trio all got the phrase, ''We Here Forever Technically'' inked on their biceps.
In addition to the disses, Sean used the freestyle to pay tribute to Aaliyah, calling her a ''real Detroit legend,'' and fellow Motor City icon J Dilla, by hanging a Dilla cap on his microphone stand at the end of his performance.
While some speculated that Big Sean's bars were aimed at Kendrick Lamar, with whom he has also had a contentious relationship, DJ Hed confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that the Compton rapper wasn't the target.
"I talked to Sean. The bar was I got better things to do then find someone to beef with.' And it was not for Dot, Bar was directed at a different Gemini."
Sean himself addressed the freestyle on social media, writing in a since-deleted post:
"N f-ck these b-tch ass n****s, every one of them."
In a separate tweet, he added:
"Y'all going with so many narratives, I'm talking to the haters who just keep finding something to point out they don't like about me. It's not even worth explaining though, I'm just focusing on the music."
Despite the apparent diss, Big Sean recently appeared to be on better terms with Kanye West. He previewed an unreleased collaboration with Kanye, hinting that it would appear on the much-delayed Vultures 2 project with Ty Dolla $ign.
Sean also promised new music would drop this week as he gears up to release his new album, following his feature on Eminem's "Tobey" alongside fellow Detroit native BabyTron.
