Kendrick Lamar's chart-topping anthem «Not Like Us» continues to dominate, extending its reach into the world of video games.
The track, known for its sharp lyrics and diss aimed at Drake, now has an 8-bit video game version that fans can play, thanks to game designer Richie Branson.
Unveiled on July 15, Not Like Us: The Game invites players to take on the role of Kendrick Lamar, armed with a wooden baseball bat, as they knock around owls while the 8-bit version of the hit song plays in the background.
Each successful hit is punctuated by the word "wop" appearing on the screen. As players progress, the game's difficulty increases, requiring quicker reactions and sharper skills.
Branson, who has previously designed games for Bleacher Report and worked on Fortnite at Epic Games, described this project as a "free love letter to video games and hip-hop."
Branson has set a high bar for players, stating on X,
I intentionally made the game spike in difficulty above 17, so any score 18 and above should be celebrated.
This has encouraged fans to push their limits, turning the game into a competitive challenge. One player commented,
This is so cool! Reminds me of those early flash games I grew up playing as a kid. Great work man, you really are a jack of all trades.
Another gamer humorously suggested,
Now make one where Drake's running away from the cops like Temple Run or Subway Surfers lol (Love the game though, this is dope so simple AND ADDICTIVE WOP WOP WOP WOP).
The game's mission echoes the visual from Kendrick Lamar's «Not Like Us» music video, where Lamar is seen gearing up to take a swing at an owl piata.
Branson revealed that the game idea came to him while he was recovering from food poisoning, adding an interesting backstory to its development.
With the added boost from the Dave Free-directed music video, «Not Like Us» has climbed back to the top of this week's Billboard Hot 100, marking Lamar's first multi-week No. 1 hit.
The Mustard-produced track also vaulted to the top of the Global 200, moving up from No. 6.
