Nelly arrest drama: Jackpot win turns nightmare
Nelly's legal team is accusing police of unfairly targeting the rapper after his recent arrest at a Missouri casino.
According to Nelly's attorney, Scott Rosenblum, the rapper was singled out by an "overzealous, out of line officer" following a jackpot win at the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles.
Rosenblum explained to Page Six that after Nelly won a jackpot, an officer falsely claimed a background check was necessary before releasing his winnings.
Nelly, who had previously won larger amounts at the same casino without any issues, knew this was incorrect.
Despite this, the officer conducted a background check, allegedly discovering an active warrant for no insurance from a past traffic stop.
Rosenblum stated that upon learning of the warrant, the officer handcuffed Nelly and publicly escorted him through the casino.
The attorney also claimed the officer searched Nelly without probable cause and reported finding alleged ecstasy among his belongings.
The warrant, issued in December, was related to a 2018 traffic stop, and Rosenblum emphasized that Nelly had not been notified about it.
He argued that if Nelly were not a celebrity, he would have been simply told to address the warrant and released, rather than arrested.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Nelly was booked for felony drug possession and the warrant.
However, Rosenblum asserted that Nelly has not been charged with drug possession and is confident the case will be dismissed. He also mentioned plans to request an investigation into the officer's actions.
