Emma Bunton, famously known as Baby Spice, is currently facing a financial showdown with the UK's HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) over a substantial income she earned from the 2019 Spice Girls reunion tour.
The pop star reportedly earned 3,929,282 (USD $7,669,070) from the highly anticipated comeback concerts, but complications arose when she placed her company, Monsta Touring Ltd, into voluntary liquidation in 2021.
Bunton initially believed her tax obligations were fulfilled after paying 748,014 ($1.45 million) in corporation tax following the tour.
However, she received a subsequent bill of 185,006 ($361,000) during the liquidation process. HMRC now contends that there is an additional debt owed by the star.
Monsta Touring Ltd's liquidators stated,
''Our understanding was that all tax had already been paid. Since March 2023, we have been in correspondence with HMRC to resolve the position. This is ongoing.''
Despite the tax issues, Bunton has already received a significant cash payout of 3,181,268 ($6,209,090) from her company.
The Spice Girls' 2019 tour featured Bunton, Melanie Brown (Mel B), Melanie Chisholm (Mel C), and Geri Halliwell, performing without Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice).
The original quintet last performed together at the 2012 London Olympics.
Bunton, who shares two children with former Damage singer Jade Jones, has yet to comment on the ongoing tax dispute.
