Climate activists attack Lionel Messi's Ibiza mansion
Lionel Messi's lavish Ibiza mansion was vandalized this week by climate change activists who left behind a provocative message urging people to ''eat the rich''.
The activists spray-painted the walls of the Argentinian soccer superstar's multimillion-dollar home with red and black paint, then held up a sign reading,
''Help the Planet. Eat the Rich. Abolish the Police.''
The group responsible, Futuro Vegetal, claimed the act in a series of social media posts, stating their goal was to raise awareness for environmental protection.
However, the incident sparked outrage from Argentina's president Javier Milei, who condemned the vandalism as a ''cowardly and delusional event.''
Milei called on Spanish authorities to enhance protection for Messi and other Argentinians living in Spain, denouncing the act as motivated by envy and hatred.
Messi, who was not present at the time of the incident, reportedly purchased the property in 2022.
The 37-year-old often vacations in Ibiza with his family when not playing soccer. Currently, Messi is recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the Copa América final.
This act of vandalism highlights the growing tension between climate activists and the wealthy, and the lengths some groups will go to make their voices heard.
