Dr. Dre recalled a hilarious mishap from a blind double date. Thrilled at first, he soon realized the woman he liked was Snoop's date, not his.
"I thought it was mine and it wasn't," Dre laughed. "Snoop pushed me out the way like, 'Nah, Cuz, that's me.' When I turned that corner and saw mine, I was really disappointed."
To make matters worse, they had driven through a rainstorm to get there.
"We drove for an hour in Hurricane Katrina to get there and I was extremely disappointed," Dre reiterated.
Despite the date not going as planned, Dr. Dre found a silver lining. The next day, he went into the studio and recorded "Nothin' But a 'G' Thang," which became a smash hit and a signature song for both him and Snoop.
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are undoubtedly one of the most iconic duos in hip-hop history. Though not an official duo like Outkast or Mobb Deep, their influence on gangsta rap and the mentorship they've provided to West Coast artists is legendary.
Their mythic status makes stories from their early days even more captivating, offering a glimpse into their more relatable, less "G'd out" moments. Dr. Dre recently shared one such hilarious story during an interview with Capital Xtra.
Reverence and a Comedy of Errors
During their interview on June 19, Snoop Dogg expressed his deep respect for Dr. Dre, whom he considers his "older brother."
He credited Dre for his business acumen and invaluable financial advice. "I just love being with him in the studio and real life," Snoop said. Dr. Dre appreciated the sentiment but lightened the mood by recounting a comical incident from their past.
Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg remain as close as ever, currently working on the album "Missionary," a sequel to Snoop's 1993 debut "Doggystyle."
Dre is handling production and the duo has been collaborating on and off for the last two years. Snoop promises that "Missionary" will be worth the wait, showcasing a more mature side of his musical persona.
"[Dr Dre] uses me like a f*cking robot and I love it because I love to be produced," Snoop said on the "All the Smoke" podcast. "I love to be challenged... [the album is] masterful."
